Ashford United lose to Faversham

Ashford United play their first match of the season in the East Division of the Ryman Youth League.

A baptism of fire is one way to describe Ashfords first game of the season against Faversham town in the Ryman youth league. On a fantastic playing surface both teams played attractive football but it must be said that the win was wanted more from Faversham and they went home worthy winners.

Ashford’s Ryman team appeared a small to medium sized under 18 team with Faversham looking fitter, larger, and a good deal stronger, especially in the air, which they dominated throughout the game. County players in the Ashford team could do little to halt the onslaught that gave away 3 precious goals to which the first was scrappy, but they all count.

So,an uninspiring start for our Ryman team at Homelands with a crowd of 83 probably swelled to just over the 100 mark by reserve and first team players/staff all of whom were eager to have a good look at our much hyped team.

It must be said though that we looked like a collection of players as opposed to a team unit and pumping iron in the gym will probably be the order of the day if our young guns are to hold their own in a youth league that is reputably one of the strongest around.

There were signs /flashes of both determination and skill throughout the game which will give a good basis to build upon for the future but we also looked at times rather fragile and somewhat dainty in comparison to the” full on” style of Faversham.
